DWP Community Work Placements

ICT

This programme came to an end in October 2016

WREC was a sub-contractor for Working Links and A19 Skills in delivering a Department for Work and Pensions contract called Community Work Placements.  It was designed for those long-term unemployed claimants on Jobseekers Allowance whose key barrier to work is a lack of work experience and offered them a significant period of full-time activity.

The programme supported jobseekers through 6 months on a placement to develop their vocational and employability skills, to add significant experience to their CV, and to demonstrate their capabilities to employers.  For all placements there was a community benefit and not a private gain.  Alongside the 30 hours per week on a placement our team also met with each individual for 4 hours each week to provide additional support with job search activity.

We had jobseekers on a variety of placements, such as groundwork with local parks, maintenance with housing associations, administration with local charities and furniture restoration.  The programme was very successful, with an average of six Jobseekers per month securing jobs and entering employment.
