Signposting young people to opportunities.

Our Newquay team have spent two days in Newquay Jobcentre meeting with unemployed young people aged 18-24 years.

The activity was suggested by the Newquay Jobcentre manager to help anyone in this age group who have not yet engaged, or been ready, for employment or the government Kickstart scheme.  They were personally invited by their JCP Work Coaches to meet our Whitehead-Ross Newquay team and hear more about provision, options and support available to them.

Morwenna, Community Engagement Officer – “Over the two days we were booked to meet with 26 young people. We engaged with 23 in total, either over the phone or face to face, and have since had contact with all but 1.

As a result, 11 young people are now booked to come into small group sessions where they will get to see our Newquay centre, meet the team, and get a wider understanding about the programmes on offer to them.

During the initial meetings, it was identified that some of the young people were just not quite ready to commit or engage in a programme so Emma, Youth Employability Officer, is now setting up further appointments to meet them 1:1 in their local area as part of our Compass* provision.

Others, identified as being ready for work, are being booked into appointments for enrolment onto our Supporting Jobseekers in Cornwall project for employability and job search support.

We had great feedback from the Jobcentre.  They were pleased with the high level of engagement we achieved and that we were able to signpost all of the customers we met to a programme that suited them and support them with the next steps they needed to take.”

We have programmes and support available to young people aged 16-24 in Brighton, Cornwall, Dorset, Swindon, and Worcester.  To arrange an informal chat with one of the team email workforceskills@wrecltd.co.uk
