SW was introduced to Whitehead-Ross by his Support Worker at Swindon Borough Council.
Having worked for a large corporation as a kitchen porter/kitchen assistant for 25 years, SW was unfortunately made redundant in 2020 due to the impact of COVID and has struggled to find another role.
Following initial discussions, Deb, Employability Tutor in Swindon, identified that it would be beneficial for SW to attain a Food Safety (Catering) Level 2 Certificate. SW’s references from his previous employment were exemplary and with 25 years’ service, he was well liked and respected by many.
Deb explained “SW was very excited to begin his training with us. After looking at the options, he decided that he would like to complete the Food Safety Certificate online, with multiple choice questions at the end of each module. Due to having slight learning difficulties and needing support with filling in forms, reading lengthy documents and writing complex reports, each of his sessions was undertaken at our WREC Swindon office where I could support him.”
Over the next 4 weeks, SW attended all his 2-hour sessions and was always punctual and motivated.
On 23rd December 2021, SW completed and passed the final module and was awarded his certificate. Delighted, he said “I enjoyed the training and the support as the questions were explained really well so I could understand them.”
SW is continuing to work with WREC Swindon with a focus now on his Employability Skills, with a view to finding employment in the near future.
We wish him every success in his future career.
