Our Future Focus: Skills for Young People Programme is aimed at 16-24 year olds in the Coast to Capital region who are currently not in any form of education, employment or training, including part-time work and zero-hours contracts. The programme  offers vocational routeway programmes and skills qualifications, including:

Retail taster: (1 day a week for 4 weeks)

This Level 1 course would suit someone who would like to work in the retail sector and wants to gain basic knowledge and understanding of the industry. This course will cover two units of the Retail Knowledge qualification: Understanding the business of retail and Understanding the retail selling process.  The course will also include an Employability Award qualification.

Course dates:

  • Tues 10th & 24th Nov and 1st & 8th Dec
  • Tues 15th Dec and 5th, 12th & 19th Jan 2021

 

Childcare taster: (1 day a week for 4 weeks)

This level 1 qualification is ideal if you’re looking to gain knowledge and skills in caring for children.  It provides an introduction to caring for children and help develop the skills and knowledge learners need to care for children.  The course will cover two units of the Caring for Children qualification: Growth & development of young children and  Children’s play & leisure activities in the community.

Course dates:

  • Thurs 12th, 19th & 26th Nov and 3rd Dec
  • Thurs 10th & 17th Dec and 7th & 14th Jan 2021

 

CSCS preparation course:  (1 day a week for 3 weeks)

This course includes Level 1 City & Guilds Health and Safety on Construction Sites, which includes topics such as managing risk, protective equipment, working at height, site transport, waste control, fire safety and dealing with hazardous substances.

The course also includes preparation and coaching for the CSCS card, the examination will be at a local centre (1 attempt is paid for by us).

There are also two additional modules that need to be completed on day one of the course which are ‘Safety in the work place on construction sites’ and ‘Effective communication on construction sites’.

Course dates:

  • Mon 23rd Nov, Mon 30th Nov and Mon 7th Dec.

 

Theses courses are free for anyone aged 16 to 24, who is Not in Employment, Education or Training and lives in the Coast to Capital area (Brighton & Hove, West Sussex, East Sussex to Newhaven and Lewes).
